Live demo of teledriving company Vay at MWC Barcelona is enabled by Internet from CBXNET

Background of the project

Berlin-based start-up Vay is a leading teledriving company that aims to offer a unique, affordable and sustainable door-to-door mobility service. A mobility service where an electric vehicle, without a person in it, is parked exactly where the customer needs the car. Vay wants to bring electric cars to its customers and clients remotely and take them to the next customer or park them after the trip. Absolutely reliable remote control is a must in order to safely perform this door-to-door mobility service.

The Solution

For this very exciting project of the start-up's Vay, CBXNET's microwave radio relay experts have built a separate microwave radio relay link from CBXNET's own microwave radio relay roof station at to the test site at the former Tegel Airport.

All remote control of the vehicles ran via CBXNET's microwave Internet link, as did the 5G test network built for this project by and Deutsche .
The very test network, which placed high demands on Internet access due to its L4S (Low Latency Low Loss Scalable Throughput) characteristics, caused "some headaches to crack" during the test phase. After several tweaks to the radio technology, however, everything then fit for this demanding application.

Results

The solution developed by CBXNET for the complete remote control of the vehicles as well as the live stream Berlin - Barcelona worked smoothly during the MWC, which lasted several days. Vay and its cooperation partners Ericsson and Deutsche Telekom were able to demonstrate the teledriving technology under everyday conditions and in real time. The trade fair appearance was a great success, to which CBXNET contributed significantly.
