The German Aerospace Center (DLR) is the aeronautics and space research center of the Federal Republic of Germany. With 10,000 employees at 30 locations, it is one of the largest and most important research centers in Germany.
In April 2023, the main portal www.dlr.de was published with a new layout, content structure and orientation.
Within 5 ½ months, a completely new, visually simplified and clear design was created for the DLR main portal based on a new and consistent information architecture and orientation. The new editorial system was implemented with Plone 6 and editors were trained with the new user-friendly system. In addition, the basic content from the old CMS was migrated automatically.
The DLR main portal www.dlr.de was developed on time and on budget within the very ambitious schedule and went online as planned on the relaunch date.
Thanks to the user-friendly content management system, new editors can be trained in record time. Time-consuming training courses and the associated costs will no longer be necessary in future.
The new system forms the basis for replacing the other legacy systems within DLR, and Plone 6 has created a standardized infrastructure. This has significantly reduced the costs of operation.
