Description
Sulzer Management AG aimed to centralize and standardize the group's global IT infrastructure and to implement the latest versions of server software. This required a major change, as it was necessary to set up data centers, configure Active Directory, and locate the Exchange servers in central data centers. In addition, DNS name and routing concepts were necessary for the global distribution of the e-mail data centers.
Solution
- Creation of an Active Directory concept
- Development of an authorization concept
- Creation of a naming concept and a migration concept
- Creation of a global Microsoft Exchange concept
- Development of an Exchange Server migration concept
- Creation of migration and operating manuals
- Design and development of a target AD infrastructure
- Development of various Exchange Server data center environments
- Implementation of coexistence of all AD environments
- Migration of all Exchange Server infrastructures
- Migration of all email gateway and hygiene infrastructures
- Migration of all non-Microsoft mail server infrastructures
- Creation of PowerShell scripts for migration automation
- Decommissioning of old email environments
- Know-how transfer for administrators
Results
The result of the project was the migration and consolidation of over 40 older Exchange Server instances in 20+ countries to three global Microsoft Exchange Server data centers. A modern, highly available Microsoft Exchange environment was created for the Sulzer Group worldwide.
