A long-term product engineering partnership supporting a US-based mental health technology company in building a modern EMR and analytics platform designed to enable data-driven clinical decisions across mental healthcare programmes.
Challenge
Clinicians needed a single platform combining patient record management with deep analytics of treatment outcomes across large, heterogeneous datasets. Core obstacles included visualising multi-dimensional patient cases, identifying optimal treatment paths from historical data, tracking medications and crisis events longitudinally, and supporting multiple organisations under one architecture, without sacrificing usability despite significant analytical complexity.
Solution
Full-cycle product engineering across two interoperable components. The EMR covers patient profiles, appointment booking, prescriptions, test results, and treatment history, built on a unified data model shared with the analytics layer. The analytics platform includes a custom Sankey chart built from scratch in D3, 15+ supporting visualisations, and an AI engine that analyses historical case records to recommend optimal treatment paths with statistical comparison. Multi-tenant access implemented via AWS Cognito with role-based routing.
Results
EMR and analytics delivered as two interoperable products in active clinical use. AI-driven treatment recommendations replaced manual outcome analysis, giving clinicians statistically validated comparisons across patient cohorts. Custom crisis and medication timelines eliminated blind spots in long-term treatment tracking. Multi-tenant architecture enabled multiple healthcare organisations to operate independently on a single maintainable platform.
