XLview

Founded in Spain, XLview uses advanced imaging systems to map streets and waterways through its Fotocalle and Riverscan services. These tools capture panoramic views of urban areas and rivers, tagging each image with geographic coordinates so that visual data can be tied to precise locations. The resulting material supports tourism, city-planning projects and hydrological modelling, while repeat photography also makes it possible to track how landscapes change over time. XLview completed its first successful city-mapping trial in Buenos Aires in 2009, followed the next year by 16,000 images gathered during Fotocalle trials in Spain. Its equipment can activate all four cameras at set distance intervals and, at each capture, record position and orientation data needed to georeference objects accurately.
