In my view, the book UX Titans by Custom Interactions is unfortunately more of a marketing tool than a balanced collection of genuine UX thought leaders. The selection of people seems one-sided and leaves out many voices that have achieved much more in the UX world. To give the title "Titan" so lightly devalues the word. Some of the people portrayed certainly have considerable achievements to show, while others seem to have been chosen at random. I find the lack of diversity and breadth to be exclusionary and in some cases discriminatory towards those who have really done pioneering work but are not given a platform here.

Comment by Custom Interactions GmbH

Hello Mr. Müller, Thank you for your feedback - even if it is critical, we appreciate you taking the time to share your perspective. First, a small formal note: The review was published here on Custom Interactions' Google profile. Even though the company holds the trademark rights to "UX Titans", the book is a personal project of the two authors and was not published by or the responsibility of Custom Interactions. Nevertheless, we as a team do not want to leave what you write uncommented - as the topic is close to all our hearts. UX Titans is not intended to provide a definitive list of the "greatest" UX personalities, but rather to provide insights into real career paths - including doubts, turning points and lessons learned. The selection of interviewees is based on pre-defined criteria (see chapters "How this book was written & how to read it" and "Get to know our UX Titans"): * Coming from industry: people who come from industry must either work in companies with more than 1000 employees and have a transformative role there - or they must work in consulting companies that develop products for millions of people. * Coming from academia: People from academia must have published scientific papers that have been cited by more than 1000 people. This ensures that their influence in the scientific community is far-reaching. * Public figures in the UX field: People who are active as speakers or trainers in the UX field must have more than 1000 followers on social media platforms. The focus of their channels must be clearly on UX. This ensures that their content reaches a broad audience and that they actively shape the field as multipliers. It was important to us to include voices that are often not represented at conferences or in books - especially to show new perspectives. We understand the desire for more diversity and will take this even more into account for future projects. That is why the book's website (www.uxtitans.com) also offers the opportunity to suggest other people for future editions - this book is deliberately intended as a beginning, not a final work. Last but not least, we would like to emphasize that we have great respect for all the interviewees. Each of them has helped shape the UX world in their own way - often without much of a spotlight, but with no less substance. We think so: These are exactly the kinds of stories that deserve to be told - and the people also deserve to be called "UX Titans". If you'd like, we'd be happy to exchange ideas - because critical voices also help us to improve. We would be delighted if you get in touch: ben @ uxtitans.com Best regards Benjamin Franz & Michaela Kauer-Franz
